Hello, and welcome to a new chapter in both my life and this blog, SheSpeaksSQL. I wanted to begin this journey by sharing something personal and incredibly exciting with you: my journey into learning SQL and how this step marks the beginning of a broader adventure in technology.
I can not tell you that I have been fascinated with technology since I was a little girl. And I can not tell you that computers, or software, were part of vision board, at any time. However, as I enter deeper and deeper into corporate life… as my career builds, and I find myself running reports, and focusing on analytics, I’m realizing… I would SO much rather automate this. I started looking at technology from a different perspective at this point. Its ability to transform, innovate, and solve problems seems like a form of modern magic. Diving into this world of coding and data analysis has felt daunting. That is until now.
A Personal Challenge
The decision to learn SQL—a language designed for managing and manipulating databases—didn’t come out of the blue. It was a convergence of personal aspiration and professional necessity. In a world increasingly driven by data, understanding how to query, analyze, and leverage data effectively has become not just a skill I want to possess but one I realize is essential!
Why SQL?
SQL, or Structured Query Language, is the backbone of countless databases and applications. Its universality and power in data management and analysis make it an invaluable tool for anyone looking to delve into data science or enhance their tech proficiency. And in truth… you have to start somewhere, right? If I don’t just pick one… I will become a victim of Analysis Paralysis.
Still… my motivation extends beyond the practical. It’s also about challenging myself, stepping out of my comfort zone, and demystifying an area of technology and making it more accessible. It’s about becoming not just a consumer of technology but also a creator and interpreter.
Joining Udacity
To kickstart this journey, I enrolled in the “Programming for Data Science with Python” course at Udacity. This foundational course is designed to equip beginners like me with the skills needed to navigate the data-rich world we live in. It’s an opportunity to learn from experts, connect with fellow learners, and build a solid foundation in not just SQL, but also programming and data analysis.
The Road Ahead
As I embark on this learning path, I invite you to join me. Whether you’re a seasoned programmer, a fellow beginner, or simply curious about the world of technology, SheSpeaksSQL is a space for us to explore, learn, and grow together.
Through this blog and our Facebook group, “SheSpeaksSQL – Open Community,” I aim to share my experiences, challenges, triumphs, and lessons learned. But more than that, I hope to create a community where we can all share our journeys, support each other, and celebrate our collective progress.
Why Share My Journey?
Because learning is more than acquiring knowledge; it’s a journey best embarked on with others. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire, motivate, and maybe even demystify the process of learning technology for others.
So here’s to the beginning of a grand adventure. To the challenges we’ll overcome, the knowledge we’ll gain, and the community we’ll build. My journey into learning SQL starts now, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.
